40 years of the AOP “Charentes-Poitou butter”
The Sèvre Dairy Cooperative's butter factory received a visit from journalists from France 3 Poitou-Charentes on February 27. The reason for their visit was the 40nd anniversary of the AOP “Charentes-Poitou butter” which benefits the Echiré and Sèvre & Belle brands.
The president of the cooperative and also of the AOP Charentes-Poitou, Mr. Patrick Roulleau, appeared live on the Journal 12/13. Charentes-Poitou butter was the first French butter to acquire a protected designation of origin in 1979. To have this PDO, butter manufacturers must follow strict specifications. The specifications establish criteria for animal breeding, milk collection, cream maturation and product manufacturing.
